Relatives of Artsakh War "Missing" Accuse Government Investigators of Inaction

By Anahit Svaryan (Hetq Media Factory)

Anahit Hayrapetyan is still searching for any news about what happened to her son Arsen who fought in the 2020 Artsakh war and accuses various state agencies of inaction and incompetence when it comes to investigating the fate of 175 soldiers and twenty civilians still listed as missing.

Hayrapetyan is part of a working group of five parents of persons listed as “missing” that works with an interdepartmental commission formed by the Armenian government that deals with issues of prisoners, hostages and missing (whereabouts unknown).

The working group presents the concerns and problems of relatives of those listed as missing or in Azerbaijani captivity to various government agencies.

Nelly Manasyan, whose son Tigran, is also listed as “missing” also criticizes government investigators of conducting superficial inquiries.

Both women say relatives are doing the bulk of the work to find out what happened to their loved ones, rather than the government.

They say Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan and Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan have yet to respond to their request for a meeting on the matter.
