Russia Accuses West of Destabilizing South Caucasus
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova today ridiculed European and U.S. efforts to negotiate peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan as “fruitless and destabilizing”.
Zakharova, during a press briefing, said everywhere the EU and Washington get involved in leads to destabilization, including the South Caucasus.
Moscow has consistently argued that a resolution of the Karabakh conflict must be based on the 2020 Karabakh war ceasefire it brokered and subsequent agreements with Yerevan and Baku.
Following his meeting with the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan yesterday in Moscow, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced that a summit of the leaders of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan is planned for later this year.
