Artsakh Parliament Speaker Meets with Aghdam Road Protesters

Artsakh parliament speaker Davit Ishkhanyan today visited a group of Karabakh residents who have blocked the road leading to Askeran to prevent the delivery of Azerbaijan humanitarian aid.

Joining the protesters at a section of the road near a Russsian military checkpoint were Hamlet Apresyan, head of Askeran district administration, Askeran mayor Hayk Shamiryan and district police chief Artur Baghunts.

On August 29, the Artsakh government dismissed an Azerbaijani proposal to ship forty tons of wheat to the country via the Aghdam roadway.

Two trucks carrying forty tons of flour provided by the Azerbaijan Red Crescent reached Aghdam yesterday.

Artsakh presidential spokesperson Lusineh Avanesyan described the proposal as a ploy aimed at deflecting international attention from the blockade and the resulting grave humanitarian crisis.

Avanesyan said Baku should fully reopen the roadway connecting Karabakh to Armenia according to the Russian-brokered 2020 ceasefire.
