Armenia Signs $88.5 Million Loan Deal to Improve Seismic Safety in Schools
Armenia today approved an US$88.5 million loan deal from the Asian Development Bank to provide additional funding to construct new schools and to improve the seismic safety of some forty-six public schools in the country.
The total budget of the Seismic Safety Improvement Program is $107 million. The Armenian government has contributed the remaining $18.5 million.
The program was launched in 2016 and sixteen schools have already been built according to accepted seismic safety standards.
After the completion of the construction, the schools will undergo an international assessment and receive an appropriate certificate in terms of earthquake resistance of nine points.
