Increasing Chance to Achieve Armenia-Azerbaijan Peace, Says Azerbaijani Official
An Azerbaijani official said Wednesday that chances to achieve a breakthrough in Armenia-Azerbaijan peace treaty negotiations are increasing.
Elchin Amirbekov, an Azerbaijani presidential envoy for special assignments, in an interview with Estonian public TV, expressed hope that the next round of negotiations will soon take place and discussion of the draft, which Baku presented to Yerevan more than a year ago, will resume.
Amirbekov noted that the previous meeting of the delegations of the two countries took place on November 20, 2023.
"During the last six months, negotiations did not proceed for various reasons, as the parties had questions about the so-called mediators, that is, the parties that facilitate the holding of negotiations," the Azerbaijani diplomat stated.
Referring to the so-called Zangezur Corridor issue, Amirbekov said Armenia rejects the idea and is trying to implement the project through the territory of Iran.
“But as they say, the more alternatives, the better. Therefore, if the Armenian side artificially delays the implementation process of the Zangezur Corridor project, we will implement it together with Iran. And if Armenia is ready to implement that project, then we will be ready to discuss it," said Amirbekov.
