Yerevan: Border Deal Opponents Rally Outside ERBD Forum
Protesters opposed to the Armenian government’s border deal with Azerbaijan tried to disrupt the May 15 European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) business forum in Yerevan attended by Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan.
The “Tavush for the Homeland” movement, led by Tavush Primate Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, has called on Pashinyan to resign.
Police were out in force outside Yerevan’s Opera House where the forum took place.
Galstanyan and his supporters argue the border deal, in which parts of several Tavush villages are to be returned to Azerbaijan, is illegal and constitutes a unilateral surrender of Armenian territory.
The movement has organized ongoing street protests in the Armenian capital.
