U.S. Selects Adviser to Work with Armenia's Defense Ministry

The U.S. has selected a civilian advisor to work with the Armenian Ministry of Defense.

The U.S. Embassy in Armenia tells Hetq the civil consultant will support the strengthening of Armenia's defense institutions. The consultant will work in Armenia, having regular working contacts with the embassy and the Ministry of Defense.

U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Ezra Zeya, who was on a working visit to Armenia last week, told Hetq that a representative of the American army will work in Armenia’s Ministry of Defense.

The consultant’s appointment is part of the U.S. Department of State’s Global Defense Reform Program that supports partner states around the world in building more resilient, effective and accountable security institutions by providing strategic-level advisory support.

The advisor will be based in Armenia and engage regularly with the Embassy and Ministry.

"Through advisory assistance, the United States intends to support Armenia with enhancing its security sector governance while strengthening U.S.-Armenia relations. The civilian advisor has been identified and will begin working later this year, " the U.S. Embassy writes.
