
Putin, Aliyev Discuss South Caucasus Situation
Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a telephone call today with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, reaffirmed Moscow’s readiness to provide all possible assistance to Baku and Yerevan to iron out sticking points delaying a peace deal between the two South Caucasus nations.
The telephone call follows a meeting between Putin and Aliyev in Baku two weeks ago.
The two also discussed various aspects of the current situation in the South Caucasus,
Putin, in Azerbaijan, said Moscow is trying to facilitate a peace agreement between Yerevan and Baku that will unblock regional transport arteries and demarcate the border.
Putin’s office writes the two presidents agreed to maintain personal contacts.
Azerbaijan State Information Agency (AZERTAC) reports the two exchanged ideas regarding the opening of a transport corridor between the western regions of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic as stipulated in Point 9 of the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh ceasefire agreement.
