
Armenia, Iran Officials Discuss Cooperation at Turkmenistan Conference
Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan and Iranian VP Mohammad Reza Aref met yesterday on the sidelines of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries in the town of Türkmenbaşy (Turkmenistan) and discussed prospects for expanding for expanding cooperation in the economy, energy, infrastructure, advanced technologies sectors between their two countries.
Khachaturyan, according to his office, voiced Yerevan’s appreciation of the work carried out by an Iranian consortium to finalize the Meghri-Qajaran section of the North-South Road Corridor (NSRC) in Armenia’s southern Syunik Province.
The NSRC runs 556 km from Armenia’s border with Georgia at Bavra via Gyumri, Ashtarak, Yerevan, Goris, and Kapan, to the border with Iran at Meghri.
It’s part of the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), a multi-modal transportation route stretching 7,200 kilometers, designed to facilitate trade and connectivity between India, Iran, Russia, and Central Asia.
The parties also exchanged views on the general regional situation and developments, stressing the principles of good neighborliness, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence as the basis for stability and development for the entire region.
