Yerevan’s Military Cemetery: Marking Artsakh Independence Declaration

Thousands made their way to Yerevan’s Yerablur Military Cemetery today to witness the unveiling of a memorial (The Call of Artsakh) that honors those who died fighting for Artsakh's independence, civilians killed over the years, and the hundreds killed by a fuel depot blast near Stepanakert on September 25, 2023.

On September 2, 1991, the people of Artsakh, then known as Nagorno (Mountainous) Karabagh, declared their independence from the Soviet Union.

The depot was being used to distribute fuel to Artsakh residents fleeing the region during the Azerbaijani military assault on what remained of the Republic of Artsakh.

Former Artsakh government officials attended today's event.
