Pashinyan to U.S. for Trump's Board of Peace Meeting

Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan departed for the U.S. today to attend the first session of President Trump’s newly created new “Board of Peace” that will oversee the reconstruction of Gaza.

Pashinyan was one of the twenty world leaders who joined Trump in signing the board’s founding charter at the Davos World Economic Forum in January.

The Board’s stated purpose is to promote peacekeeping around the world.

To date, 25 of the 62 invited countries have signed the board's charter, but no major European U.S. allies have joined over concerns it would rival the U.N.

Countries that wish to be permanent members of the Board must pay US$1 billion into a fund controlled by Trump; otherwise, each country serves a three-year term which may be renewed at his discretion.

Pashinyan has said that Armenia will not pay the $1 billion.

The Vatican, today, announced it will decline an invitation to join the Board.
