ECHR Obliges Azerbaijan to Provide Armenian POW Verdicts by August 31

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has rejected an application by Azerbaijan to lift an interim measure by which Azerbaijan is obliged to periodically provide information on the conditions of detention of Armenian prisoners held in Azerbaijan, as well as on their health condition.

The ECHR, on April 9,  rejected Azerbaijan's latest request, and again called on the government of Azerbaijan to continue providing information on the conditions of detention of the detainees, as well as their latest medical records and other documents related to medical examinations and treatment conducted.

The ECHR has set an August 31 deadline for Azerbaijan to provide transcripts of the verdicts the Baku Military Court handed down to the Armenian POWs.

In February, the court sentenced five former Artsakh officials to life imprisonment on a variety of war crimes charges.

The court, in a separate case, sentenced former Artsakh State Minister Ruben Vardanyan to twenty years imprisonment.
