Armenia, Turkey Discuss Joint Use of Border Rivers
Armenia’s Water Committee reports that a joint Armenia-Turkey commission met in Yerevan for the first time to discuss the shared use of the Akhuryan and Araks rivers, and several documents were signed.
The two rivers constitute part of the border of the two countries.
The permanent Armenian-Turkish commissions on transboundary water management met first at the Armenia-Turkey border checkpoint and then at the administrative building of Jrar CJSC, part of Armenia's Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, to discuss operation of the Sardarapat regulator and the Akhuryan reservoir.
Tigran Vardanyan, director of Jrar CJSC, welcomed participants and said the signed documents had been prepared on mutually beneficial terms, according to the statement.
The statement added that several important agreements were reached during the meeting but did not provide details.
