Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Davit Khudatyan and Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development Farzaneh Sadegh met today in Tehran and discussed the project to erect a second bridge connecting the two countries spanning the Araks River.

The Armenia–Iran border spans thirty-five kilometers along the Araks River. Currently, connection is maintained by a single bridge at the Norduz-Meghri border crossing.

The two countries reached a preliminary  agreement on the construction of the new Norduz border bridge in August 2025.

Khudatyan, according to his office, also noted that construction of the Qajaran-Agarak roadway in Armenia, with sizeable Iranian involvement, is progressing on time.

This thirty-two-kilometer section of the North-South transport corridor connecting Armenia to Iran is expected to be finished by 2027. A consortium of Iranian companies, including Abad Rahan Pars International Group and Tunnel Sadd Ariana, is heavily involved in the project that aims to improve road safety and boost transport efficiency

The two officials also discussed expanding cooperation in the transport and aviation sectors and agreed to work towards increasing the volume of cargo transportation between the two countries.
