Nayirit Workers Stage Protest Outside Presidential Palace

Disgruntled workers of Yerevan’s Nayirit Rubber Factory converged on the presidential palace demanding that the now idle plant be restarted and that their back wages be paid.

Most of the protestors were common workers who haven’t been paid for the past eleven months.

At the beginning of this month, plant management promised to pay the workers one month of wages. As of yesterday, they hadn’t.

A spokesman from the presidential palace told the protesting workers that they would be paid three months of wages by the end of December.

The workers weren’t satisfied by the pledge and have decided to demonstrate outside the Nayirit plant starting tomorrow morning. They say they will continue their protest until their demands are met.
