The “Society Without Violence” NGO, stressing the importance of struggle against violence in Armenia, will organize a  public event entitled “Domestic violence as a ground for a strong family” on December 3 in Yerevan. 

The aim of the event, part of the “16 days of activism against gender-based violence” campaign, iss to aware public in large about violence against women and to present some cases of domestic violence. It also tends to rise the question whether domestic violence is a national tradition and a notion to be kept behind the family walls.

Taking into account the fact that the Court of First Instance of Ararat and Vayots Dzor found Haykanush Mikayelyan - the mother-in-law of domestic violence victim Mariam Gevorgyan, to be guilty but convicted her to rather lenient punishment, the action will address the final verdict of Mariam Gevorgyan’s case as well raising the concern that the absence of domestic violence law in Armenia results in such judgments.

The event will take place on Monday, December 3 at 15:30 in Charles Aznavour Square, in front of Moscow Cinema. The public is encourage to attend.
