20 June is World Refugee Day
In 2001 the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 20 June World Refugee Day. This year is also celebrated the 60th anniversary of the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees.
Dozen of events are held in different European cities on June 20 to celebrate World Refugee Day. UNITED for Intercultural Action – the European network which consists of approximately 550 European organizations - has organized wide-ranging campaigns around European major cities. According to the network data 15.551 refugees have been killed since 1993. Only in 2011 it has already become known about 1478 victims.
On June 20 in Yerevan, Armenian Progressive Youth NGO, cooperating with the European network of UNITED for Intercultural Action, will carry out movie watching, online flash mobs, informational campaigns, trainings for youth and students, as well as a march and awareness raising action involving passers-by and especially the youth.
The main goal of the event is to raise the awareness of the youth about the rights and issues of refugees, as well as draw their attention to the one of the most important and essential issues of the modern world.
