Vahakn Hovnanian - Complains About Pending Labor Bill

American-Armenian businessman Vahakn Hovnanian has again publicly complained about recent amendments to the RA Labor Code that would, if passed into law, restrict the official work week to five days and 40 hours.

"Throughout the world, people can work as much as they want to. There are some lines of work, like construction, where the work has to be done on the weekends due to inclement weather and such to get the job done. The law must be flexible. This bill is a throwback to the Soviet days where everything was spelt out to the letter, and it's wrong," Hovnanian told reporters today.

Mr. Hovnanian is well-known in Armenia for his Vahakni Estates, a gated residential community on the outskirts of Yerevan.

Hovnanian wants to have his workers to be slaves? Typical for him, squeeze everything from workers and become richer and richer. I think it is good law, no one can restrict work over 40 hours, but it should be regulated, so people like Hovnanian would not take advantage of working people. Armenia also needs Unions to fight injustice in big corporations and with people like Hovnanian.
