Workers Dismantle Tracks at Arteni Rail Station: Five Employees Get Sacked
Asparez, a newspaper in Armenia, reports that workers began to rip up one set of railway tracks this morning at the Arteni train station in Armavir Province.
The tracks had just been laid one year ago.
The paper says the station will be left with just one set of tracks, leading to the dismissal of five station workers.
Station Master Artour Arakelyan told the paper that the renovations were performed by the Russians, that a percentage of the funds had been “pocketed”, and that the dismantling was illegal.
The newspaper also contacted Arteni Village Mayor Gegham Khlghatyan, who said that he had just heard about the work and was about to rush to the station to see for himself.
Asparez reporter Alisa Hakobyan writes that village residents have gathered at the station to express their displeasure about the dismantling.
