Azerbaijani Citizen Who Crossed Into Armenia is Transferred to a Third Country
On August 30, 2013 the First Deputy Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia,Davit Tonoyan, met with the Head of ICRC Delegation to Armenia Lorenzo CaraffI, informing him that adhering to its international commitments and exhibiting a committment to human rights, as well as taking into account the clear position of a former Azerbaijani citizen, said position was transferred by a relevant international organization to a third country which has granted him refugee status.
Armenian First Deputy Minister of Defense asked the ICRC to inform the parents and kinsmen of the refugee that he has been successfully transferred to a safe, secure, prosperous and democratic state.
The Ministry notes that owing to being exposed to inhumane oppression and torture, Firuz Farajev had fled and crossed Armenian border in July 2012, where International humanitarian organizations have had unhindered meetings with him. The decision on transfer to a third country was made based on a free expression of his will, an examination of the facts and a clear understanding of the harsh destiny awaiting Azerbaijani POWs upon their return to Azerbaijan.
