Two civic activists were severely beaten yesterday in Yerevan in what many say was a revenge attack for a protest that took place outside the Presidential Palace earlier in the day.

Haykak Arshamyan and Souren Saghatelyan were set upon by a group of six or seven anonymous individuals at around 11:30 pm yesterday in downtown Yerevan.

The two are now being treated for the injuries at local hospitals.

Yerevan Police say they are conducting an investigation into the beating.
