Armenian Bishops Synod Gives Green Light for Canonization of 1915 Genocide Victims

The Bishops Synod of the Armenian Apostolic Church, which concluded today in Etchmiadzin, has adopted a measure leading to the collective canonization of Armenians killed in the 1915 Armenian Genocide.

The canonization issue was one of the two main points discussed by the Synod, the other being the meaning of the baptismal rite.

The Synod has directed a special committee set up to study the individual and collective canonization issue and to present their findings to the next Bishop of Synods.

The committee has also been tasked with drafting a canonization procedure for subsequent submission.
