Azerbaijani Forces Attack Armenian Military Convoy as President Sargsyan Tours Tavoush
Yesterday, as Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan was touring the town of Dilijan in Tavoush Province, an Armenian soldier was killed when Azerbaijani forces opened fire on a convoy of military vehicles a scant 50 kilometers to the northwest.
The Armenian convoy was attacked between 1 and 2 pm in the border town of Tavoush along the Berd-Ijevan highway.
19 year-old Private Garik Poghosyan was killed and three other soldiers were wounded in what the Armenian Ministry of Defense labeled a “criminal act”.
President Sargsyan had travelled to Dilijan to visit the Central Bank’s Diliijan Research Center and newly constructed housing for 58 bank families transferred from Yerevan.
Sargsyan also toured the Dilijan International School construction site.
The school is set to open in September, 2014 with an enrollment of 90 students from Armenia and abroad.
