Protesters Demand Rejection of Russian Gas Treaty by National Assembly

Some 200 protesters have gathered outside Armenia’s National Assembly, calling on MP’s inside to vote against ratification of a December 2 agreement between Moscow and Yerevan that would hand over Armenia’s remaining 20% of the national gas utility to Gazprom.

The demonstrators argue that passage would further erode Armenia’s national sovereignty.

The Russian utility giant Gazprom already owns 80% of HayRusGazArd.

Prosperous Armenia MP Tigran Ourikhanyan told the demonstrators that MPs opposing ratification would seek to prevent a vote on the matter.
