Lack of Staff Creates Long Lines at Yerevan Passport Offices

Long lines of people waiting for their new identity cards have popped up at various passport agencies throughout Yerevan.

Gayaneh Khachatryan told Hetq that she’s been waiting for her new ID and biometric passport since January 8.

“We want to know how many workers showed up yesterday to service the pubix. They won’t tell us anything,” Ms. Khachatryan said.

Sirarpi Arshakyan, another woman impatiently waiting for her documents, phoned Hetq to report that people have been queuing for several days due to an absence of service staff at the passport offices.

Hetq has been informed that there is only one worker processing document at the Ajapnyak passport office even though some 100 people are waiting on line.

Ms. Arshakyan says she phoned the complaint hot-line but that no one answered. She then called police.

“There are eight windows here, but only one is working. We called the police so that they could maintain some order. In fact, we had to tell the cops what their job was in situations like this,” said a frustrated Ms. Arshakyan.
