Armenian National Congress Has Diversity of Views on Karabakh
Armen Musinyan, the spokesperson for Levon Ter-Petrosyan, told reporters at the "Ourbat Club" that the Armenian National Congress (ANC) has a multitude of viewpoints when it comes to the Karabakh conflict. While Musinyan stated that such a diversity of views is natural and to be welcomed, he declared that,"There is a unified opinion when it comes to a maximum beneficial solution to Armenia regarding the Karabakh issue." Mr. Musinyan also added that the 'time-out' declared by the oposition on October 17th temporarily halting public rallies had proved to be fruitless "since the regime doesn't possess the intellect to effectively utilize such opportunities".
Mr. Musinyan confessed that there have been calls by some ANC members to resume the demonstrations, bring about regime change and not allow a Karabakh settlement to be realized given the current set of principles being debated. However, he added that the ANC "has weighed the pros and cons and hasn't reached a conclusion that the public rallies need to be resumed".
The spokesperson expects an agreement on principles to the negotiations process to be reached in the next three months but that any such document cannot serve as the basis for a comprehensive settlement of the Karabakh conflict. Mr Musinyan added that the ANC would support the people of Karabakh whether they voice their disagreement with the negotiations process or whether they voice their consent.
