On November 25th, court proceedings in the case of "Ijevan Municipality" vs. "Investigative Journalists" continued in the Yerevan Civil Court. The Ijevan Municipality had gone to the courts seeking redress and compensation for a series of articles it alleges having slandered and defamed the good name of the Mayor of Ijevan Varujan Nersisyan and which contained baseless charges against the Municipality. The main article published by Hetq regarding the Ijevan Mayor was entitled, "Who's is Pocketing the Profits of the Sand Mine?" and was written by Voskan Sargsyan, Hetq's Noyemberyan correspondent. The case began back on May 5th. At yesterday's court session Judge A. Barseghyan and Gevorg Davtyan, legal counsel for the Ijevan Municipality, questioned Voskan Sargsyan as a material witness. Mr. Sargsyan presented a series of facts to the court on the basis of which he wrote the article in question. Due to the end of the work day the proceedings ended and the Judge selected December 11th as the next trial date.
