“Miatsum Initiative” Talks to Press about Efforts to Impede its Activities
Members of the “Miatsum Initiative” Jirayr Sefilyan, Zaruhi Postanjyan and Alexander Kananyan spoke to reporters today at the “Ourbat Club” regarding obstacles being placed in their way to organize public forums in Etchmiadzin and Armavir. Zaruhi Postanjyan stated that in both cases the organization had reached prior agreement with the local mayor’s office to hold public discussions and to show Tigran Khzmalyan’s film, “From the Arax to the Kur, from Artsakh to Javakh”.
According to her statement, employees of the National Security Service showed up in Etchmiadzin and didn’t allow the meeting to take place while in Armavir local police officers surrounded the Cultural Palace and didn’t area residents in the building. As a National Assembly Deputy from the Heritage faction, Zaruhi Postanjyan petitioned Hovik Abrahamyan, the President of the Parliament who promised to meet with the President and Mr. Gorik Hakobyan, who heads the National Security Service.
Deputy Postanjyan added that Mr. Abrahamyan later telephoned her and stated that the “Miatsum Initiative” no longer needed top organize public meetings since the President was preparing to meet with its members and listen to their case. In closing she stated that Mr. Abrahamyan also told her that the “Initiative” was a creation of Levon Ter-Petrosyan.”
