Kapan Workers Gearing Up for New Protests amidst Talk of Further Cuts
At this moment the Robert Falletta, General Manager of the Deno Gold Mining Company (DGMC) located in Kapan is meeting with angry workers at the site. Plant management had previously announced that as of December 15th 148 workers would be cut from the payrolls and the contracts of some 200 more wouldn’t be renewed. As of today, however, it appears that the pending cuts could be even deeper. Hetq’s correspondent in Kapan reports that a company official mentioned that 60% of the workforce would be cut and that the wages of those remaining would be cut by 40%.
