Hakob Hakobyan Views November 2nd “Declaration” as a Political Blueprint

Hakob Hakobyan, president of the National Assembly’s Social Affairs Committee, believes that the “Declaration” signed in Moscow on November 2nd, cannot be considered a legal document, but rather a political blueprint. “Recent events inn Kosovo, South Ossetia and Abkhazia showed that the superpowers are able to correctly utilize international norms to protect their political interest in the South Caucasus.” This was the view expressed by Mr. Hakobyan at a press conference held today at the “Iravunk De Facto” club in Yerevan.

He stated that the signing of the “Declaration” was in Armenia’s interest since it specifically emphasized that the political path to solving the problem must adhere to corresponding international norms, in order that the two sides refrain from warfare. Mr. Hakobyan stated, “The “Declaration” doesn’t say anything concretely but rather formulates the problem of today and contextualizes the objective of all future activities.”
