“Russia is Attempting to Place the Entire Region Within Its Security Zone”

Today, Mr. Ruben Hakobyan, President of the Akunk Political Research Center, evaluated the November 2nd Karabakh Declaration signed in Moscow as “A new stage with careful wording but with Russian domination” during an interview that took place in the Pastark Club. In his estimation the essential lesson to be learned from the Russian-Georgian conflict isn’t that conflicts can only be resolved only through negotiations but that Russia has specific national and state interests in the region and that it is ready to protect them at all costs, whether through diplomacy or by war.

Mr. Hakobyan stated that, “Today Russia is attempting to place the entire region within its security zone, not conceding its position to either the United States or Europe.”
