"Base Metals" Lumbers on in Karabakh Despite Crisis

Recently, rumors have been circulating regarding lay-offs at Base Metals, Inc., a mineral ore extracting company that is the RMK's largest operating firm as well as the country's largest taxpayer. To ascertain the facts Hetq contacted Artur Mkrtumyan, the firm's managing director, who stated that 90 employees had recently been sent into retirement but that the move had been planned to take place much earlier. "We couldn't avoid doing it especially since we have to cut costs," Mr. Mkrtumyan stated. He added that despite the serious impact of the economic crisis the company continues to operate and at relatively higher levels.
