Edvard Sharmazanov - "To Deprive Armenia of its Vote is Dubious"

Today, at the "Hayeli Club", Edvard Sharmazanov, a spokesperson for the Republican Party in Armenia and National Assembly Deputy, described the PACE Monitoring's Group decision to deprive Armenia of its voting right at the upcoming organization's session as unfavorable. However, he still held out hopes that the decision would be rescinded, and cited three other cases where such a proposal had been made but later pulled. "If we compare conditions of those three other cases with Armenia, then the move to deprive Armenia of its voting right is dubious," he claimed. The Republican Party spokesperson cited as fact the work carried out by the current ROA government to fulfill the obligations of the resolutions set out by PACE and noted, "I believe that there is a double standard at work. If our European colleagues wish to see Armenia more democratic thenI am convinced that the application of sanctions isn't the best resolution." Mr. Sharmazanov went on to say that there is no alternative to democratic values in Armenia and hoped that after the PACE delegations visit to Armenia in January their draft decision would be changed.
