Judge Orders Yet Another Adjournment In "March 1st Seven" Trial
After a one hour adjournment Judge Mnatsakan Martirosyan dismissed the recusal petition of Grigor Voskerchyan's lawyer on the basis that it was groundless. Afterwards Liparit Simonyan, the attorney for Alexander Arzumanyan petitioned the court to forego the detention as a preventative measure for his client given that for almost the past twelve months he has been "illegally arrested".
The judge noted that the detention of the accused Arzumanyan "had been carried out taking into account the nature of the crime committed, the level of danger to the public and that it was the legally correct dentention method." In his petition Liparit Simonyan also noted that the bill of indictment was found to be baseless on the part of Koryun Piloyan given that no decision had been taken in the case regarding him being the primary prosecutor. For two months the defense wasn't aware whom it should petition and where to present its protestations, the attorney noted. The judge retorted that the public prosecutor was coming forth as the main prosecutor on the basis of a document attached later but that it too wasn't included in the case file.
Alexander Arzumanyan then stated to chief prosecutor Piloyan, "Yesterday even the PACE Monitoring summit declared that this is a political frame-up and that these people are political prisoners. If you are fond of European values, accept that resolution and immediately set us free."
The judge then called for a two hour recess to review the petitions in chambers.
