Shirak Court Orders Dismissal of Gyumri Municipality Official
Yesterday, the Shirak Regional Jurisdictional Court ordered that Ashot Kalashyan, Chief of the Gyumri Municipality's Supervisory Division of Illegal Construction and Land Seizure, be denied the right to be employed in any regional or local government capacity for a period of two yeras and that he pay a fine of 500,000 drams. The dismissal was the result of an investigation charging Mr. Kalashyan with the abuse of his office in the illegal appropriation of the "tnak" (hut) of homeless resident Svetlana Movsisyan and then selling it to his aquaintance for the sum of 240,000 drams.
Mr. Kalashyan claims that he is innocent of the charges and that the case was built on a series of falsehoods. The court denied the request of Ms. Movsisyan that Ashot Kalashyan be obligate to reimburse her to the tune of 400,000 drams and advised her to initiate a separate suit in the matter.
