Chief of Criminal Investigations Hovhannes Tamamyan - "I launched search on morning of March 1st"
At a press conference held earlier today, Hovhannes Tamamyan, Chief of the Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division, stated that he was in charge of the police raid at Freedom Square in the early morning hours of March 1st.
"I made a decision based on operative information I had received and, with the go-ahead from the Chief of Police, I carried out the morning operation. There was no need for a special order since there already had been instructions for an operative operation. I did not direct subsequent developments,"is how Chief Tamamyan described his involvement in the March 1st incidents. He addwed that the police couldn't bring specialists to the Opera site since they didn't know beforehand what they would find. "When we found something we immediately called them in. Police search examiners were there. Our work is the same. I cannot comment on other matters," concluded Colonel Tamamyan.
