On January 13, ROA President Serzh Sargsyan held a working meeting to discuss the results of the first stage of a review of the country's defense strategy. The President's Press Office reports that the review process is comprised of five stages that are slated to be completed by April, 2010. ROA Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan attended the consultative session and reported on the activities of the inter-governmental committee set up to coordinate defense strategy policy. The DM underlined that the draft document by the committee, evaluating and asessing the security environment of the country and potential threats, was the result of the review's first stage and that the report aims to develop long-range policy options in the field. President Sargsyan stressed the need for flexibility in assessing potential security risks and that such assessments must be constantly reviewed and revised when necessary.
