Heritage Party Official - "Nothing has been done to uncover circumstances regarding March 1st deaths"

Today, at the Defacto Club, Armen Martirosyan, who heads the Heritage Party bloc in the ROA National Assembly, stated that if Armenia's position is weakened within the Council of Europe it can have a domino effect regarding Armenia's reputation in other international bodies. "All such international bodies are linked and a loss of standing in one could possibly lead to a similar loss in others," Mr. Martirosyan stated, adding that, "If Armenia's is stripped of having a voice within PACE it could lead to a halt in assistance to Armenia from international financial organizations." Regarding Armenia's fulfillment of the two PACE resolutions regarding the events of March 1st, Mr. Martirosyan stated that for the most part the requirements hadn't been met except for certain steps to carry out an unbaised investigation of the events. "A fact finding group has been created which insures the bare minimum of an unbiased probe," he noted. The Heritage Party Deputy added that the problem pf political prisoners remains and that no steps have been taken to uncover the facts behind the deaths of ten innocent victims. "No one has been arrested for the deaths, there is no movement towards diversity of opinion and a free media and the open bids for TV frequencies has been put off till 2010," Mr. Martirosyan concluded. The only way out of the morass, in his opinion, is the freeing of all arrested in conjunction with March 1st.
