Cases of Corruption Not Presented to NKR Supreme Court
At a press conference held yesterday, Ararat Danielyan, President of the NKR Supreme Court, noted that during 2008 petitions to hear corruption cases hadn't been made to the Supreme Court. This was in response to reporters questions regarding corruption levels in the country. Mr. Danielyan went on to stress that the aim of judicial reforms in the NKR was to create the necessary conditions for impartial and free court proceedings to take hold.
When asked if certain officials have tried to interfere in the independent judicial process. Mr. Danielyan responded that, "I have been working in the judicial system for over a year now and can unequivocally state that no such attempts have been made." The Supreme Court president added that insuring transparency and fairness in the court system was one of the government's overriding priorities and that their efforts would also assist in the recognition of the NKR by the international community.
