Levon Shirinyan - "No separatist movement in Javakh"

At a press conference held today at the "Ourbat Club", Doctor of Political Science Levon Shirinyan stated that the charges of espionage recently used to arrest Armenians in Akhaltskha were merely a pretext for the Georgian authorities. "The recent events in Javakhk are somewhat unusual because the two young men arrested have links to traditional Armenian parties. Thus, the Georgian authorities were aware of this and took the steps they did. Perhaps there is a change taking place in Georgia regarding the strategy to be implemented towards Javakhk," noted political scientist Sergei Minasyan, the other speaker at the press conference. Levon Shirinyan went on to say that, "There are no separatist tendencies in Javakhk and such attitudes aren't possible in a cultural society. I don't know if they are affiliated with a certain party or not, but anyone has the right to carry out charitable work." Mr. Minasyan believes that the Armenian diaspora needs to follow these events and that the Georgian authorities, by their actions, have given an incentive to various organizations in the Armenian diaspora to take a more active role in the Javakhk issue.
