Trial of "United Javakhk" Leader Postponed till February 11th

Yesterday at the Akhaltskha District Court, four individuals gave testimony at the trial of "United Javakhk" head Vahagn Chakhalyan and several of his family members. Two Akhalkalak judges also were in court to testify regarding the events of July, 2006 when a series of disturbances , took place in the area. The testimony of the judges confirmed that the charges against Mr. Chakhalyan are without substance. The judges also testified that Mr. Chakhalyan displayed no aggresion towards them. A representative of the military police testified that on July 13, 2006, Mr. Chakhalyan planned and incited the crowd to take over the local police station. Police Officer Aram Mkoyan testified regarding the disturbances that took place in the courtyard of the Akhalkalak Georgian Orthodox Church and stated that Mr. Chakhalyan attempted to pacify the crowd and prevent the assault on the police station.
