No Gain to Armenia from Erdogan's Israeli Flap in Davos

Today, at the "Hayeli Club", Artak Shakaryan, an employee at the Oriental Studies Institute, and Souren Manoukyan, Depity Director of the Genocide Institute, commented on the recent diplomatic flap that took place in Davos pitting Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Isreali President Shimon Peres. Both agreed that Armenia had nothing to gain from the battle of words between the two leaders regarding Israel's actions in Gaza. The Armenian analysts also argued that Israel would not officially recognize the Genocide and that drastic changes in the region wouldn't occur. "The traditions of Turkish-Israeli relations are much older, in addition, one shouldn't link the recognition of the Armenian Genocide to Turkish-Israeli relations. While there is indeed some connection, however in Israel any comparison with the Israely Holocaust has its limitations," Mr. Manoukyan claimed. Mr. Manoukyan stated that Erdogan is now viewed as a hero in Turkey as well as in the Arab world. He mentioned that Turkish state TV had broadcast reports from Gaza showing that new born baby baoys were being named Recep-Tayyip and Emineh, the prime minister's wife name, if girls. Mr. Shakaryan stated, "He did what all the leaders of the Arab world didn't. Even the Turkish opposition has praised Erdogan for his actions."
