Investigative Journalists NGO Gets Writ of Execution against Ijevan Mayor

As previously reported by "Hetq", the RoA Administrative Court in Sevan partially sustained the claim of the Investigative Journalists NGO vs. the mayor of Ijevan. The Investigative Journalists NGO had submitted a written claim to the court requesting that the minutes of the community council session of May 23rd, during which 930,000 drams was allocated from the Ijevan budget for legal fees to seek redress from the Investigative Journalists NGO and to "compel the defendant to refute information tarnishing the honor, dignity and work record of the Ijevan mayor and to seek compensation for injuries sustained". Ijevan Mayor Varujan Nersisyan refused to hand over the council records, arguing that he was doing so "in order to avoid possible speculation", adding that he'd make the documentation available after the trial had ended. The court compelled the Mayor of Ijevan to hand over copies of the council records of May 23 to the Investigative Journalists NGO by December 1, 2008. The court also decided to seize 8,000 drams from the community budget to reimburse the NGO for court fees to initiate its claim. Given that the Ijevan mayor hasn't voluntarily complied with the courts finding, the Investigative Journalist NGO petitioned the court for a writ of execution. The writ has been received and will be presented to the Compulsory Enforcement Services of Judicial Acts so that this agency can compel the Ijevan mayor to comply with the court's previous order.
