Prosperous Armenia Party Deputy Denies No-Confidence Vote Rumors
At a press conference held today, Vardan Bostanjyan, Vice President of the RoA National Assembly's Standing Committee on Economic Affairs and a Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) Deputy, refuted rumors that party would pass a no vote of confidence regarding the present government at its upcoming party congress. "Those rumors have been circulated by those who don't support the regime. The PAP has never entertained such a move. Our congress will be held in two days. Have some patience and wait. You'll see it's all a fabrication of the press," the deputy noted.
Turning to economic matters, Deputy Bostanjyan commented that the anti-crisis program of the government was good but that, "Perhaps we won't be able to entirely implement it due to the financial revenues it requires."
When asked by "Hetq" why the PAP hasn't presented its own anti-crisis package and why it voted against various tax increases proposed by the administration, Deputy Bostanjyan responded that Prosperous Armenia has no anti-crisis program, with which it could help the Government and added that it’s inappropriate for every political force out there to present their own crisis remedy. "The PAP voted against the administration's tax package but we haven't hindered the executive branch. We just think that it isn't appropriate to raise taxes in a time of economic crisis," he noted.
MP Vardan Bostanjyan concluded his remarks by stating that most probably a 6% growth will be registered in 2009 and not the planned for 8-10%. "In 2009 we will have a very strained situation. There will certainly be difficulties, but not insurmountable ones."
