At a press briefing held today, Artyusha Shahbazyan, secretary of the ARF's parliamentary faction stated that the party's Supreme Council failed to convene the other day and thus no decision was taken regarding who would head the ARF ticket fir the May Yerevan City Council elections. "As to Artzvik Minasyan, all I can say is that he remains one of our possible nominees, but there is no final decision on the matter," Mr. Shahbazyan stated.
When asked by reporters to comment on whether or not the ARF would contest the elections as an opposition force, Mr. Shahbazyan answered, "While we cooperate with the government we present a fairly oppositional stance on matters. In other words we strive to maintain our independence and if we disagree on this or that issue we definitely make our voice heard. If there are problems in the city and believe that the authorities are lacking when it comes to laying them out on the table in the proper manner, there is no reason for us to remain silent on the matter."
