HAK Spokesperson - Mayoral Election More than Just About Garbage Collection

"We regret the fact not only that the HAK and the Heritage Party failed to come up with a united ticket for the municipal elections, but that Heritage chose not to participate at all. Nevertheless, we understand the reason that our colleagues chose to do so," stated HAK spokesperson Arman Mousinyan at a "Hayatsk" press conference held earlier today. When asked to comment on the Heritage statement calling on its supporters to support the HAK ticket and whether this might mean possible cooperation on other fronts, Mr. Mousinyan responded, "Presently, there are no such arrangements, but I can't rule out further cooperation in the future." In his estimation, the current situation is "positive" given that the political parties in the ruling coalition will be contesting the municipal elections independently and that there's an established oppositional team and noted, "This greatly facilitates a favorable environment for political struggle." Mr. Mousinyan commented that the ruling regime has found itself in a quandary since it understands that the election will be a politically infused and that it won't be about garbage collection or planting trees in Yerevan. "The experience of past political processes shows us that the regime has suffered heavy defeats and that they have two options at their disposal; to either accept their defeat in the mayoral election based on the people's vote or to once again carry out massive voter fraud," concluded the HAK official. In his view, if the elections are free and fair it will be a great victory for the nation. "I wouldn't even care if Tigran Karapetyan won the election, as long as the process was fraud free," noted Mr. Mousinyan
