Shant Harutyunyan Protests Inhumane Detention Conditions
Shant Harutyunyan, one of the defendants in the "March 1st Seven" trial, has issued a public letter today in which he states that he has been held at the Nubarashen Detention Center for over twenty-four days in inhumane conditions. He states that he hasn't been allowed out of his cell to walk around in the open and that the cold conditions don’t allow him to sleep at nights.
He states that Judge Mnatsakan Martirosyan has not issued a decision to have him undergo psychiatric testing but rather a court sentence which, he claims, is a secret sentence.
Mr. Harutyunyan also claims that the Russian secret services, fearful that the Armenian public will understand the steps taken by the Russian empire to subjugate Armenian independence, has assigned their agents in Armenia to hand down an unprecedented court sentence in his case.
Mr. Harutyunyan goes on to state that the judge's sentence, specifying the duration of his imprisonment, is being kept from the public and that the decision to keep the sentence unpublished has also included clauses to detain him in the most inhuman of conditions.
