Reception for Kochar's "Armenian Photographers" Illustrated Compendium

An exhibition dedicated to diaspora Armenian photographers opened at the "Akatemia" gallery yesterday including a reception to mark the launch of Vahan Kochar's compendium entitled "Armenian Photographers". "Perhaps no other nation has such a book, a collection of its photographers scattered around the world," commented Mr. Kochar. Vahan Kochar told Hetq that the exhibit was made possible due to the efforts of his father Antranik Kochar, a photographer in his own right. "He did a lot of work at the time to collate the names of Armenian photographers, their portraits and works. Most of the photos on display at the exhibit are originals, gifted to my father." On display are photos taken by such luminaries as Canadian-Armenian Yousef Karsh, Arto Cavouk, Istanbul-Armenian Ara Guler and Harry Koundakjian from the U.S. The tome includes the names of 480 Armenian photographers with biographies and photos for 300 of the listings.
