ARF Decision to Pull Out of Coalition Contingent on Presidential Meeting

25_04-k-manoyan1At a press conference held today, Kiro Manoyan, who heads the ARF "Hay Dat" and political affairs bureau, commented on speculation that that the ARF might pull out of the ruling government coalition over its displeasure with the recently signed Armenian-Turkish "road map". "What was stated in our declaration is now under way. We must have a meeting with the president after which the party will reach its conclusion," stated Mr. Manoyan, who added that he wouldn't entertain questions regarding the ARF leaving the coalition. Mr. Manoyan declared that President Sargsyan didn't inform the ARF, as a coalition member, of the content of the impending "road map". He stated that he tends to believe that a document hasn't been signed, but rather, certain points have been agreed to "since the term formulated has been used". This still doesn't mean that an agreement has been reached, he noted, but that if such a "road map" does exist, the ARF feels itself to be deceived as a member of the coalition. Mr. Manoyan also called for the contents of the "road map", if such a thing exists, to be published. In his estimation, the "blow delivered on April 22 was huge but that it doesn't mean that there remains nothing to be done". Mr. Manoyan advises the Armenian government to clarify whether it has altered its position vis-a-vis the recognition of the Armenian Genocide or not. He stated that he tends to believe the Armenia's foreign policy has undergone a change. Regarding the 1921 Treaty of Kars, the ARF official stated that it doesn't have any legal validity and that Armenia will never have a president that would sign such a document.
