Heritage Party - Taking a Wait and See Approach with ARF

In an interview with "Hetq", Heritage Party Deputy Larisa Alaverdyan stated, "The ARF played one of its cards not to equate itself with the politics of the ruling coalition." In her words, the reason for the ARF leaving the coalition isn't clear but opportunity was. "That was the recent clouded and very unspecific statement regarding Armenian-Turkish relations, Deputy Alaverdyan noted. "As to those processes taking place in Turkey and Azerbaijan and the gravity that these activities are being given, completely speak to the fact that Turkey holds itself up as the hegemonic power in the region while Armenia, with its apparent position of agreement, continues to settle one question - what will the outside world say about us," she added. As to what the ARF's move will be in terms of a new opposition force entering the parliament, a force quite large in numbers, the Heritage Party deputy answered, "What role does quantity play? What's important is quality. We have been the only opposition and our positions have been of the highest caliber. We have brought a new culture into the parliament and will continue. As to what the ARF will do, we can only wait and see. Life is quite long." When asked if she thought the ARF would cooperate with the Heritage Party since it has declared that it wouldn't work with the HAK, Ms. Alaverdyan noted, "We have always welcomed a willingness to cooperate. Meetings between parties will bring some clarification to the issue."
